8 Hamilton Cafes You Should Definitely Visit

Girl sipping from mugIf you live in Hamilton or are planning a road trip, you should definitely check out some of the best coffee shops in Ontario. Tee and I took a trip to Hamilton last weekend to check out as many cafes as we could in 24 hours. Here are the Hamilton Coffee Shops where we recommend going!

1. Mulberry Coffee House

Round sign saying Mulberry Street Coffee House

This coffee house is at the top of the list for good reason. Besides good coffee, they have these delicious sandwiches at affordable prices that are as filling as they are tasty. Best of all, the menu is very vegan friendly! This chill cafe is in a historic building and is beautifully decorated in vintage style. When we went, it was full of people both inside and outside, yet there was still plenty of room for everyone. Coming here was one of the highlights of the entire trip.

2. St. James Espresso Bar & Eatery

Shortstack of pancakes with garnishes

We couldn’t have picked a better place for a brunch and warm welcome to the city than Saint James. Our almond milk lattes, one hot and one cold, were overshadowed by the yummy and quite photogenic shortstack. Avocado toast and coffee? Sounds about perfect. It was so busy, but luckily we were able to get seats by the window for a photoshoot. Honestly, here the food speaks for itself.

3. Redchurch Cafe + Gallery

Inside of Redchurch Cafe and Gallery

Across the street from a pretty park is this airy, welcoming space. If you’re an art lover like me, this is definitely the space to be. They have a constant changing gallery that is worth checking out. Along the wall, they have a small retail area with cute gifts. I also appreciated their assortment of syrup flavors, all made in house. Including vanilla, chocolate, and maple syrup, a Canadian classic.

4. Democracy*

This cafe doubles as a vegan friendly restaurant. We came here for dinner, not even knowing that it was vegetarian. What an awesome surprise! Everyone was really nice and we made friends with the couple at the next table over, too. Our Pierogi pizza and Fries Supreme were all the junk food we needed in our life. This is a friendly spot you don’t want to miss out on. PS. Make sure to try the Cauliflower Wings!

5. Cannon Coffee Co.

Milk pouring into coffee

This cafe is definitely a town favorite. This is because of their secret. No, it’s not just their amazing coffee. It’s their famous treats that they call “waffles”! If you like sandwiches, you’ll love these waffle sandwiches for sure. And yes, they have vegan and gluten-free batter too. If you somehow don’t love waffles, you should still go for the coffee. They take pride in providing high quality espresso.

6. Smalls Coffee

Storefronts, Burnt Tongue and Small's Coffee

Appropriately named, this is the tiniest little takeaway spot on Cannon Street. It’s right in the center of all activity, and with a bright storefront it’s actually hard to miss. The lattes are pretty and the coffee is great. There was even a taste of home with beans coming from De Mello Palheta Coffee Roasters in Toronto. They may be cute, but they’re serious about their coffee! Sounds like someone we know… Introducing Me

7. Finch On Locke

Storefront that says "FINCH" with a blue bird

Finch cafe is so homey, which makes sense since the space is inside a converted house. If you’re the type who likes to cozy up with a book, this is the place for you. The staff at this spot are knowledgeable about coffee and happy to answer all of your questions. You can also take home all of the gear you need to make great coffee at home, including grinders, kettles, and beans from an array of roasters.

8. Cafe Oranje

Storefront, "Cafe Oranje"

A Dutch-inspired cafe with old-world hospitality is hard to come across. We were lucky to find it right in the middle of Hamilton. At Cafe Oranje, they serve coffee with a smile, making you feel a part of the community even if you’re just visiting. The highlight is the Dutch treats. They also use beans from a variety of Hamilton coffee roasters. Make sure to try one of the donuts from Donut Monster!

Those were my Top 8 Picks for Hamilton Coffee, but there are so many! More spots are opening up all the time. I plan on taking a lot more trips to find each and every one. Stay tuned for the next list. Keep Latte Living, Coffee Lovers, and I’ll speak to you soon!
